The company Next

Next is the biggest clothing retailer in the United Kingdom. Next was founded in Leeds in 1864 by Joseph Hepworth under the name of Joseph Hepworth & Son. In 1982 the company Kendall & Sons Ltd was acquired and the first Next stores were opened. Next has nowadays more than 700 stores worldwide. Most stores (> 500) are in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The other stores are in continental Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Besides the retailers Next also has an online webshop where you can buy the Next products.

 

Products

Next sells a very wide range of products. the focus is primarily on the sale of clothing. Next sells clothing for men, women and children (newborn – 16 years). Examples of products are coats and jackets, jeans, dresses, swim and beachwear, shorts, skirts, t-shirts, tops, trousers and leggings, lingerie, underwear, socks, etc. Next also sells shoes, for example boots, flats, heels, sandals, trainers,  etc.

The assortment also includes fashion related accessories such as bags, wallets, cufflinks, sunglasses, jewelry, watches, belts, etc.

Next also sells homeware products such as bathroom furniture, bedroom furniture, beds and mattresses, fireplaces, curtains and blinds, bed linen, kitchen and tableware, duvets and pillows, sofas and chairs, etc. and electrical products such as coffee makers, toasters, microwaves, hair dryers, shavers, straighteners and curlers, dishwashers, fridges, fitness equipment, etc.

 

When does the sale starts at Next?

Stores change their collections several times a year because of the changing seasons. When a new collection is introduced stores must get rid of the old collection. To sell the old collection stores organize sales. Next organizes discount sales four times a year: 2 mid-season sales and 2 end-of-season sales. The exact start date of the sales isn’t announced by Next. But by comparing the dates from previous years we can predict when the sales will start every year. In recent years Next organized sale periods in the months of March, July, September and December. For example, in 2012 the sale periods started March 24th, July 14th, September 22th and December 26th. Sale always starts on a Saturday, except the Boxing Day sale. Each year, the sales will start around the same date. The sale also takes place online in the webshop of Next.

Another very important shopping day is the Black Friday sale, which always takes place the day after Thanksgiving and is the start of the Christmas season.

 

VIP Sale

Next always invites shoppers for the VIP sale. If you are invited, you can start shopping a few days before the actual start of the sale. The prices of Next sales differ depending on what area you go shopping. The criteria to be eligible for the VIP sales are on the website of Next.
